New Castle and Silt are small towns that had a lot of farms and farmland and were less costly to live in than Glenwood Springs. However, in the 1990’s things began to change in New Castle when one
of the largest farms got developed into a golf community. Lakota Canyon Ranch is a golf community tucked behind the mountain of the old town of New Castle. It boasts an incredible golf course and housing development.
Homes now average around $500K plus for the area. Silt has also seen many farms being cut up into housing developments in the past decade. New Castle and Silt is still much less expensive than Glenwood Springs to buy real estate. And, you still get a little more for your money in New Castle and more land in Silt.
The Commercial area of New Castle right off of Intestate 70 has a full size City Market grocery store and is now attracting more commercial development. As New Castle and Silt continues to grow it will attract more new retail businesses and restaurants.
New Castle and Silt houses a lot of employees of Glenwood Springs and is now seeing more demand from energy workers that continue to move into the area.
